Yet another email from yet another service providor detailing yet another hack of their systems.
This time from the Yellow Group that publish the Yellow Pages.

It seems that someone has targetted them as an easy source of information to hijack data from unsuspecting folks that still use faxes.

Beware of hoax fax

Yellow® has been made aware of a hoax fax that is currently circulating throughout New Zealand. An unsolicited fax is being sent to Yellow® advertisers with the purpose of scamming money.

This fax is falsely claiming to be sent from Yellow pages® and displays a logo which looks like the real Yellow pages® logo but is upside down. The New Zealand Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Scam Watch, has been informed.

The scam is offering Yellow® advertisers the option to have their details, search words and key industry phrases submitted to the Google search engine to enable them to reach more people who are searching for products and companies online. The fax asks customers to fill out their details and provide an authorised signature, then fax it back to this toll-free fax number (09 523 8022). This is a hoax!

We are urging all Yellow® advertisers not to sign this contract or disclose any details. Although Yellow®’s logo and Terms and Conditions appear on the fax, it is being sent without our consent and does not come from Yellow®.

If you sign this fax, you may be entering into a legal contract and could be liable to pay almost $2,000 in what will be the first instalment of a two year contract, totalling almost $4,000. Payment is still required in the event the customer asks to be removed from the service.
