This part of our website came about as a reaction to losing far too many hours watching rubbish films. We are all busy people. Far too busy to waste time on crap movies.
Lets face it, there is an extreme amount of ridiculousness that gets made and released as mind-fodder for the folks looking for some distraction from their every day lives. We are very subjective people, so the act of reviewing things is quite difficult for us generally, but we will give it a shot!

We watched this last night as a rare treat - a movie night!
To be honest, I need to watch it again to really get to grips with the plot. It was definitely a re-interpretation rather than a retelling. In the special features it talks of this, but being a huge fan of the book I kept goihng back to the book in my mind as I watched and became a little lost.
Johnny Depp steals the show as per usual. His passionate take on the Mad Hatter is brilliant. His performance holds the whole thing together, and makes the movie very watchable again, but this time I will be doing it to enjoy the movie rather than to compare with my distant memories of the book.
Overall a great watch. Amazing special effects that are nicely integrated, great cast and fantastic overall feeling. Looking forward to watching again. |

We stumbled across this stunning New Zealand film about the Karena family quite by chance, and what a surprising discovery it was.
The 90 minute film is a documentary that follows the life of Peter Karena, his wife Colleen and their 6 children as they deal with living by a wonderful, uncompromising code of ethics quite rare in today's modern, fast paced world.
It is a refreshing look at a more simple way of life, a life where family, living in the moment, a deep affinity with nature and happiness take priority over all else. It is extremely moving, raw and emotional, and really makes you think about what is important, and the deep impact we have on those around us.
Peter sums up his ethos very eloquently with the line "What do I do for a living? I live for a living"
The film explores the family's dynamics and allows Peter the opportunity to beautifully articulate a simple philosophy about a life more simple, and a life devoted to family. It made me really think deeply about how I teach my own children, now and into the future. Peter is a deep thinker, a very calm and considered man; Colleen is a deeply caring, wise and compassionate woman, and their children are full of life, love and sense of honour and family. These are the kinds of folks you would love as your neighbours!

This movie motivated the start of this new feature of the website.
I really just didn't get it. It bored me sooo much that I feel asleep on the floor in front of the fire, and was not disappointed. As a result of the little nap I didnt get to see a portion near the end, but by that stage they had lost my interest anyway. With such little free time it is always so disappointing to waste time watching something that does not live up to expectation.
I had to reread other reviews to actually understand the point of the movie. It was very slow moving and a little distracting in places. Matt Damon is a great actor, and does a great job in the film, but it was just so slow.
Last night on TV was the classic movie Fight Club. This movie also deals with the world of dellusion and is much more watchable. Just my opinion.....
