A Model Plane to be proud of...

blackbird-sr71-1jpgThis is a serious remote Controlled plane. Not just your average kit from the shop, this guy actually built a scale model, jet engine powered SR-71 Blackbird.
The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird was the original 1970's Stealth Bomber, was built between 1964 - 1998, with only 32 ever produced. Of this 32, 12 were destroyed in accidents.

The SR-71 is capable of travelling at 3500 km per hour, and to build a scale model that actally works is quite a feat. He apparently built the jet engines too.

Where can I get my hands on one of these?

The wiki page for the Lockheed SR-71 is fascinating for those inclined.
Copy and paste people : < http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_SR-71_Blackbird >

On this note I knew a guy once that did this too, built operational jet engines out of cans, secured them to the kitchen table and fired them up. It was very impressive at the time. He would then follow this demonstration up by blindfolding himself and getting the assembled guest to watch and time him as he tackled an assault course in the park next door - a kind of "run across the park, scale the climbing wall, climb the monkey bars, run the stepping logs" kind of thing.
All perfectly normal...........

Here is another clip of a similar model, complete with turbine jet engines, but this time with afterburners.
Soooo cool. Oh and it has got music too... Now I am thinking that this maybe is some kind of model that I can buy, a rather expensive model me thinks....

And here is another clip, not quite so impressive as this looks and sounds more like the RC Kit we are more familiar with. Doesnt have that jet engine sound that the first example does.
