iphone4

iphone4gThe new iphone4 has just been released in the US, to a huge consumer response.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs said "this is the most successful product launch in Apple's history. Even so, we apologize to those customers who were turned away because we did not have enough supply"

The phone sold 1.7 million units in the first 3 days of its official launch of June 24th, but there has been a buzz on the intraweb about some fairly significant connectivity issues with the new generation. I have attched a media piece about this after the very funny animation done to illustrate some of the shortcomings of the brand.
It is quite humourous in a sarcastic way, and there is an interesting follow up story.

The power of brands is well reflected in this clip. I am sure we all know friends like this on both sides of the conversation ...... Careful though, this has some swears in a frustrating way. What is up with all of the swearing in this afternoon's posts? Apologies, but we are all grown up's right?

An interesting footnote to this is that the guy that made this animation, Brian Maupin, is currently suspended indefinitely from his job for making the clip.
He works at a Best Buy store in the US, and his employers are less than impressed by the 1.3 million hits, and media response his clip has gotten. He says that this is a good thing as it has given him the motivation (and probably the opportunity) to pursue his passion of graphic design and animation. Good luck buddy!

And so onto some of the connectivity issues. It seems that the antenna for all of the functionality have been placed in a different configuration, resulting in loss of call connectivity when being held in the normal manner. This is a huge design problem by all accounts, as the human body is an electrical unit as well, when held normally in the hand, the antenna short out and the call is dropped. This has lead to some really hilarious blog posts about just how one needs to hold the iphone4 correctly.

And the solution, the rubber bumper casing, which you will have to buy. Bummer.
My vintage Nokia from 2002 that I have been using since I cracked the front glass on my last phone is still looking very attractive until they solve these kind of fundamental issues.

hahaha, found this old post & have just watched this again. Funny, but so true. Wonder how the animator ended up with the pursuit of his dream after getting fired?
