Poor old VC winner_Willie. He is in the firing line from all sides. Having had a brother be deployed in a military capacity to the front lines of Afghanistan a few years back in what was then called the first wave of "provincial reconstruction" I am in a slightly biased position here.
Whilst I dont necessarily agree with what is going on in Afghanistan from any angle for any given period of time over the last 50 or so years, it seems to be abit irresponsible of the press to be putting individual soldiers in the spotlight such as this. I think there is a clear division between individual and state in situations such as these.
The internet has made the world a very small place over the last decade and media content is no longer contained to the population is was originally published for. This story has been picked up the world over now, and I am sure that all of this fuss has made for not only some great headlines but also just added to the level of inherent danger Corp.Willie_Apiata is in.

Crisis management - time for a cuddle |

The joys of working from home is that anytime there is a major crisis there is always a very cute little girl outside playing on the deck or swimming in the paddling pool ready to provide a great distraction. This past couple of weeks have been particularily challenging. Sophia has given and received a great many cuddles whilst complex problems were solved............
I have been the proud maintainer of a beautiful computer that myself and a great fellow geek friend Glen Roberts built ourselves in 2001. At the time it was a ground breaking machine, and I had to wait for months for the latest components to be released and imported. It even came with state of the art 3D glasses for an over the top gaming experience (I am still yet to play a game.....). Last week it died.

Get along to Avatar - in glorious 3D |

Last night Haylee and I wandered along to see what looks likely to be the biggest money making movie to date - AVATAR. We are fortunate to have just had a new 3D projector installed in Nelson's State Cinema late last year to enable 3D movies such as this to be played in all of their 3D glory - and what a glorious thing it is!!!
Haven't seen it yet - do get along and see it if you can get to a 3D theatre. WOW! What a great visit to the movies! The 3D environment is truely stunning. It is a whole different movie going experience, and makes conventional movies seem very underdone and flat by comparison. I now want to see all of my favourite movies remastered in 3D. The whole movie felt very tactile, rich and layered. The 3D effect was all encompassing and gave a total feeling of inclusion rather than the tacky "it's coming at you" effects of older versions of 3D ( I seem to remember an edition of the Jaws series being 3D along time ago...). |

Back In Business, & back to the business of business |

Welcome to 2010, and welcome to a big year of changes for our own business. Intrigued? More to follow during the year. We have some very exciting things in the pipelines. First day officially back, and what a day of emails! Thankfully the weather has been on and off with the rain, or I would have felt the urge to get back into the garden. Yesterday I harvested a whooping 10kg of fresh, organic potatoes from the top garden so feel very motivated to get back into the garden to whip that into a super productive state. It is so rewarding, and as we also have our website www.thenaturaloptions.com discussing such things as establishing your own urban garden it is only right that we walk the walk.......
Why is it that you always feel like you need a holiday a few days after being back in the chair again? The joys of running your own business I guess. You have to work really hard to produce a window to relax, and then work really really hard when you get back to catch up on all that you have missed..................no joys of holiday pay for us!
We all had a great time in Taupo and are fully rested, relaxed and reinvigourated. Bring on 2010! It is going to be a big start of the year for us, with a new baby expected in mid Feb. That is abit of a warning. For those with big, new projects on the cards get in now to talk to us about them as time management over Feb / March is going to be critical for us as we get used to 2 children under 2..........
