Life on holiday sure is great! A few more days of this and I think we will be reconsidering how we do things the rest of the year!
Taupo really is a magical place. For all of those in Nelson, you would be amazed at how quickly they (the Taupo council) have signed off on, and almost finished building, a monstrous bypass complete with a massive bridge that goes right over the top of the Waikato River, the famous Prawn Farm and Huka Jet to connect up with State Highway 1. The last time we were here in Feb this year construction hadn't even begun as far as I am aware, and now it is almost finished! Honestly it is massive.
Hoping that everyone else is taking abit of time off to relax and enjoy the family - given the recent legislation around the holidays act I imagine that even some of our retail & hospitality clients will be putting their collective feet up over some of the public holidays as the extra staffing costs sure make business a whole lot harder than it need to be in these already tough times. I am kind of glad that we don't have to deal with that this year.
Sophia is loving all of the bird life at Haylee's parents home in Taupo. Haylee's mum is the go-to person in Taupo for rescuing birds so the garden is full of a dozen or so teenage ducks growing up and a bunch of baby blackbirds getting hand reared amongst other things. Two fluffy baby ducks are in and out of the house all day coming for cuddles with Sophia - she loves it, they love it, and we have even got a great collection of photos to use in our photo library. So if you ever need to use a photo of a little girl kissing a fluffy baby duck you know who to call (or email)! |

Procrastination on the web is endless... ever heard of Googlewhacking?
When I heard on a radio show about the phenomenon, I had to of course google it to find out what on earth it was. Wikipedia gives the definition "A Googlewhack is a Google search query consisting of two words that return a single result." There are rules - no quotation marks, both words must be words found in the dictionary, and the single result must not be a website which lists words.
Yeah - it can't be too hard to find one... fifteen minutes later I have searched the combinations:
circassian werewolf - 5790 results hyperbaric tutu - 23,700 results
Maybe it's a little harder than I thought. I'll have to get back to you with this one. |

Of course, when you're studying you find reason to quickly open a new tab and check your email - just in case a mate has sent you some extra study resources... This isn't usually the case, I often get sent links to mildly amusing sites, articles and youtube links which aid general procrastination, but do nothing in the way of exam preparation.
This one on theoatmeal.com in particular is worth sharing, not only for the explanation on how web design can so easily go bad, but for every other laugh out loud article and comic - from grammar explanations to zombies. |

Not many hours to go to see how the new gen TV folks have gone with their updated interpretation of an 80's classic tv miniseries "V". Almost tempted over the last couple of days to shirk from deadlines and hole up and watch the old school version I have on DVD, but alas I am far to responsible for that kind of carry on! It is great to see comprehensive marketing campaigns at work - check out the TVNZ website and see the lengths they are now going to promote and engage the audience. It does bring up an interesting conversation about the traditional TV market vs the internet / Tivo etc. With the start of web only shows on TVNZ there sems to be an acceptance that the internet is a real force in the entertainment stakes, with more and more of the demographic spending more time surfing and less time infront of the box.......
The rain has been a motivator to get as much work done as possible so I can get into the garden in the weekend and get another round of veges in. Strawberries are in full production now. Yesterday Sophia had 8 or 9 fat red ones, and is starting to eye up the raspberries as they start ripening. I hope we get a look in too...... |

December already. Where has the year gone? December is traditionally a mad month for us as local Nelson clients get into "summer" mode and want to get prepared for the tourists. This year we are heading to Taupo for a summer break so book your projects in early folks! We will be doing some limited work whilst away (the joys of laptops) but would prefer not to get surprise jobs with the email subject "this has to be done by tomorrow........" Chances are we will be at the lake teaching Sophia all about water, ducks (her favourite), swimming and sandcastles.

Looking for some cool summer sounds? Check out this great lady - Kate Earl. I stumbled across her site whilst investigating how to install a new slideshow programme. Wow! Chilled, melodic, nicely poppy with a alternative folksey feel. Think Heather Nova mixed with Beth Orton and a little Gnarls Barclay thrown in. You can visit her website here where you can listen to her album. Haylee has been on my case for playing this over and over, but it is just so nice...........If you are keen to buy this album it is only US$10 - a bargin. You can go through to amazon through our affiliate links. You get a great deal, and we make a few cents in the process. Clever huh! Sell you on an idea, rave on about it then close with an easy link that makes us a little cash. If you have a US address you can buy the download for just US$5 - thanks little brother for living in the States. I will buy a download myself because I would love to support her and it is scary using the filesharing sites these days. It is like sharing a drink in a seedy nightclub with a stranger you have just met, you never quite know what you'll catch or if the drink has a little "extra" thrown in to make your night really interesting, but not in a good way! |
