It is time for some dirty dubstep - XP Professional style!

xp-proFHM: Friday's Hallowed Music - XP Startup Dubstep

This is hardout, and hallowed.
For those of you still hanging onto your precious XP machines like us, you will be well familiar with this tune!

Back in the day when our first custom built XP Professional machine was our primary office workhorse, this startup tune was a joy to behold, as the startup took only moments.
Now we are running vista machines we can initiate startup and go and make a coffee before it all loads up, and dream of the speed we used to enjoy on our fresh install XP Professional. In fact I miss it so much I might just get motivated to do another fresh install on those machines this summer as a project. The reward is so gratifying....

There is a lot to be said for hanging onto what has worked so well in the past, and sometimes it is worthwhile to invest time, energy and love into keeping something precious, alive and operational. In this age of planned obsolescence if you can keep a computer alive for longer than 5 years you are doing well, but sometimes the rebuilds are worth it.

What is also worth it is DUBSTEP. This is pretty magical for the geeks out there. Ah the internets....

Love this?
There is more to this than meets the ears.
{There has also been an interesting twist to this story a week after posting the article.....}

These dudes rock the dubstep with the legendary XP Startup, so much so that since this track was dropped on the 19th Nov several other remixers have stolen bits of it and reposted it all over the show. That is a shame for the dude that made it but this is the state of youtube at the moment. People find posts they like, rip them down and repost them to their own accounts like they made it in the first place. {read the update at the bottom}

Lesson here - if you are going to blog about all things internetty, best you do the due diligence and try and give credit where credit is due, and post content from those that actually made it, rather than from those that just thieved it.

So on that note, we hope that we are reposting the original!
But wait, maybe they are not the original!!!

This was found during the search, whilst not entirely all dubstep it does have a dubstep section that does sound very familiar, and is perhaps the sample that got the first channel < http://www.youtube.com/user/YouWantThenYouGet > motivated.
Actually like this one even more - slick, sick and twisted! It is all class, and nice nod to The Prodigy in there!!!

The channel is < http://www.youtube.com/user/4N0Y3DGiiRL > they posted this mix on 17th of November, a clear 2 days earlier than the first clip.....
So who is the innovator, and who is the amalgamator?

But wait - more searching, and you find this from 16th March 2008. MMMMMmmmm

This track however has had 6.228million views, so one would presume that this is the original.....

This is the whole problem with youtube, and creative copyright. It is so hard to actually work out who has made what, and who owns what, and now that there is money to be made via advertising it is becoming increasingly the domain of thieves and pirates.
Give a kid a couple of stolen downloaded programmes and a whole bunch of time and the world is your oyster.
Cut and paste, slice and dice, and you are away. As long as you are changing it up by 30% you are entering into a grey area of the intellectual copyright lawfield.

Ah the internets......

UPDATE: We Love the Interwebs, will the real creator please stand up..

This is the complete beauty of the web. So we write this article and put it out there, and a week later get a comment on the article from ZACH claiming that this was actual his track that he wrote and published several months back.

Right you are Zach, we clicked on the link he left and what do you know, exactly the same music, but different visual to the first one we posted. So we have removed the first one we posted, and posted Zach's one there instead Credit where credit is due.
Zach < http://www.youtube.com/user/AHOBAW > uploaded his version May 2011, the one we found that motivated this article was uploaded on 19th November.

Point made. Thievery is rife on YouTube, and is actually damaging the creative process.

Haha, that one is not the original. I created the original one a few months ago. Check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4KAFMS4MOY

Thanks very much for commenting Zach. Right you are, your upload date on youtube is well in advance of these other ones, and clearly illustrates the point I was making entirely in the last paragraph - it has become harder to know where to give credit on youtube.
Great job buddy, love the track!

So it turns out that the original creator, Zach, was ripped off as well. This is the crux of the matter on YouTube, ownership of creativity is muddled and it becomes hard to know what is original and what is not.

I just want to say that I am NOT angry with the people who have been using it. I actually find it pretty neat that so many people like it enough to remix or repost it, I just wish people would credit me with the original.

You are a gentleman Zach. It is a compliment, but also a sad reflection of the world we live, where some choose to take credit for work they have not done.

I to wish that credit would be given where credit is due. It is pretty simple really, but may require a quantum shift in the social structure and morality of our collective society for that to be the norm!
