This years Superbowl commercials have gone all out as usual, with extreme budgets, and attention grabbing concepts. None more so than this fantastic, futuristic ad for the new Motorola Xoom - a tablet to "Empower the people" The references to the iconic Orwell movie "1984" are not at all subtle, and the glimpses of the power of this tablet are enticing. Some are saying that it is also a tongue in cheek dig at Apple's 1984 superbowl ad based on the 1984 concept too. The Apple references are implied, but by focusing on the white earbuds you get the general idea that the ad is directed at the Apple IPad market. Here is the Apple take on the same original stimulus, way back in 1984 when they used the movie as a touch point as they released the original Apple Mac. This was a superbowl commercial too, with the superbowl spot being it's only daytime airing. Seems like a lifetime ago. 1984. Wow. Are we there yet? So what is it about the Motorola Xoom that is so special? Here is one of the many release videos: It would be pretty cool if it operated just like the screens in The Minority Report, that is what they are inferring. I hope that it does. That would be really quite cool.
