Fridays Music Clip - Rihanna the Butcher performing Mariah's "Hero".

Whilst researching a blog post for TussockJumper.com I stumbled over this shocking video of a young Rihanna performing a Mariah Carey song at some kind of talent show.

At 15 years old she is developing the style that the marketing gurus go crazy for all over, a young girl that is pretty and a blank canvas with no discernible style of their own.

It seems it also doesn't matter that she doesn't hold the notes or do justice to the song - she has the confidence to get up on stage and give it a crack regardless of whether or not she is any good. Perfect again for the marketing department. They are not phased. Not in the days of digital effects and auto-tune. As long as she can make a sound to feed into the machines all will be well in the world.

Until clips like this come out.

But does it even matter if clips like this exist?
Is the collective clobbering power of the millions of dollars invested into promotion more than enough to counter a hiccup such as this. Sure. Just ask Chris Brown.

This is video features the start but not the end, where it seems most of the painful bits come from.
It is still not what you would expect given the huge sensation she has become. It would be a stretch to think that she won the competition.
