Floods, phones and checking in.

This floodWednesday's Weird Web Thievery is topical - the floods in Queensland, Australia are all over the news, so here is a thieved image as a moment of light relief.

Watching the news footage tonight on the flooding in Queensland Australia has left me not only feeling so very sorry for the families directly involved but also for those trying to get through to those who are still missing.

So far there are 16 dead and nearly 70 people still missing.
Footage of houses and cars floating down stream in these tsunami-like flash floods is simply shocking.

This image (click on it to enlarge) comes via yet more of the "demotivational / failblog" emails that bounce around our inboxes.

With the flood waters about to peak with the tide in a couple of hours time it is looking grim for the huge city of Brisbane as thousands flee their homes in the face of rising flood waters.
As of yesterday about 75% of the state of Queensland was under water and considered a disaster zone.

The river is expected to peak at 8 metres, which far exceeds the models that have been made of the worse case scenario. Below is an info graphic which shows an extreme flood model of 7 metres.

This graphic has been made to highlight the effects of a large flood on the riverside city of Brisbane.
