Last week Kanye West's latest video leaked onto the internet.
Warning this is NSFW in the extreme - in fact the whole video and concept are extreme. What is going through this man's head?
This clip is the 3rd one I have had to find since I saved the original link to it, it seems that the "leak" has had the effect wanted, and each clip gets to 4 or 5 million views before being pulled by the record company.
Is this a clever marketing ploy to reinvigorate a flagging career and consumer backlash after the antics by this massive ego of a man over the last couple of years? Has anyone forgotten that very awkward Taylor Swift moment when he ran the stage during her awards acceptance speech to grab the microphone from her?
Since then he has really been battling the media and the public. Even the President of the US, Barack Obama had a crack at him post the "Taylor; I'm gonna let you finish but..." moment.
Note: The video keeps getting pulled. It seems "they" are not keen for an official one to be released. oh well, we will keep reposted - comment if the video is down & we will find another.
There has obviously been some very intense reaction to both the lyrics and also the video, none more funny that the parody creating by some guy with excerpts from Sesame Street.
This parody clip has already had 84,000 views, funny. Again it is definitely NSFW - those muppets have some filthy mouths!
One of the comments left by a random youtube user on one of the Kanye videos really captures the essence perhaps of the psyche of Mr West as an entertainer:
"This is a poignant and thought provoking arrangement; Kanye West's complex yet subtle composition questioning the dark and oedipal nature of his instinct, if not the very fiber of his existence as a human being, set against the backdrop of what we've come to accept as normal and nurturing characters from our childhood in the form of monsters."
If we allow our minds to extrapolate the message contained within this video, it is that society is the real monster.
.... And since we are on the muppet / Sesame Street beat down this is another kind of NSFW clip where the Sesame Street characters have their intentions totally waylaid with some inappropriate beeping of words in all of the wrong places - ah the power of the video!
Just to finish, here is the moment Kanye probably wishes never happened:
The audio of Barack Obama calling West a jackass - actually this was tricky to find:
This is a really interesting way to end all of this, with an interview with talkshow host Jay Leno the night after the famed VMA award night spectacle. I have been following Kanye's tweets on Twitter for a while now and the man went through an intense period of regret, and re-evaluation.
The media can be harsh to those it wants as well as being generous when it comes to finding favour with those it wants too. Did Kanye bit the hand that feeds and step over the line?
Is this new album a reaction to all of this? Are the music men behind him that have invested vast amounts in his long term career now looking for ways to rebuild a newer, darker, edgier version?
