Shapeshifter - Twin Galaxies

twin-galaxiesThought I would throw up another clip for Friday, this time coming from NZ band Shapeshifter.

These guys bring a massive sound, and seem to always do a wicked tour every summer.

This track is particularly poignant at the moment as New Zealand goes through a grieving process as a nation.
It really is kind of strange how an event like the Pike River mining tragedy brings entire communities if not the nation as a whole that little bit closer together.

The song is such a great fit for the occasion, and the video is just extreme.
The retelling of the old stories in a modern way is exceptional.

Upon watching that video do you get the feeling that there is a little more to Shapeshifter than meets the eyes?

Here is their latest monster hit "Dutchies" off their new album "The system is a Vampire". Love it.

Live they are awesome. Cant wait to see them in Nelson this summer.
Here is another version of Dutchies, but with no video and way better audio. Enjoy. Turn up the bass!

Shapeshifter are just wicked. They formed in 1999 after the four founding members met at Jazz School, and had a range of musical backgrounds ranging from dub, jazz, and hip-hop, to metal, funk and electronica. As a result, they decided to bring these influences together to create live drum & bass.
After playing locally and releasing an early EP entitled D.N.A, they quickly became known as a fresh, innovative act.

They have since released several albums and have toured extensively, often with Salmonella Dub in the early days. They still have a close connection with ex Salmonella Dub front man Tiki Tane.
I saw Tiki and Sambora (from Shapeshifter) play a set here in Nelson last year and it was just what the doctor order. I truely let my hair down that night, and for those that know me personally, that is a sight to see.....
