Fridays Music Clip - Band Aid - Do They Know Its Christmas

bandaid-stingHaylee's constant repeat play of the Christmas Cd at home has had an effect.

But be warned it has not been a really positive effect. More like a tragic nightmare from Christmas past.

This Fridays Music Clip of the Week is a full retro Christmas hit with a conscience - the Band Aid monster track from 1984 "Feed the World - Do they know it's Christmas?"

I don't know if you have a constant stream of Christmas music at your house yet, but I certainly know that it is soon to be Christmas.
Every time I am in the house it is a hard fact to escape.

The fun thing about this video is seeing just how young all of these superstars of music were actually at the time. I can't believe how young Sting looks, like a teenager. It is just weird. The rockstar lifestyle was maybe not so extreme to this section of the music industry as it was to the hair metal bands of the day perhaps.

As it will soon be Christmas, even the ads on the radio station I am listening too online are all about Christmas functions, it is also a time in the west to reflect on compassion and the art of living an admirable and dedicated life, or alternatively a time to share & enjoy with family good food and the giving of gifts.
Whichever way you look at it there is no escaping the dreaded Christmas songs....
We can however learn from the past and not try to recreate it - after the read more is a Stock Aitken and Waterman remake of Band Aid that is just sad by comparison.

The whole concept of Band Aid was one founded in real compassion and generosity by Bob Geldoff & Midge Ure to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia by releasing the record "Do They Know It's Christmas?" for the Christmas market that year. The single surpassed the hopes of the producers to become the Christmas number one on that release.

The record was released on November 29, 1984, and went straight to No. 1 in the UK singles chart, outselling all the other records in the chart put together. It became the fastest- selling single of all time in the UK, selling a million copies in the first week alone. It stayed at No. 1 for five weeks, selling over three million copies and becoming easily the biggest-selling single of all time in the UK.

5 years later, Boy Band creators Stock Aitken and Waterman tried to recreate this amazing moment in music history with the likes of Bros and Kylie & Jason. It is quite painful, but watch it anyway, or not.
