Wandered across this fantastic clip this morning and just had to post it.
It is called "Wellington Love Letter" and is a lip-synced performance to Chicago's "You're the inspiration". It is the creation of Kevin Estey & Jesse Lewis-Evans of Wellington.
From first impressions it seems like a homemade, very over the top, super cheesy tongue in cheek look at some of the great rock ballads of the 80's. The styling is superb, and both the cinematography and editing are very slick.
After watching it for the first time I was left wondering what it was all about, someone, or more probably a group of people with obvious resources on hand, have spend quite a while crafting this.
I can just see this clip going viral over the coming days and weeks. It was first posted 10th November and has just gone past 8,600 views on youtube. Click on the read more to get to the bottom of all of this.
They have posted a "making of" video to youtube as well, which is very interesting and well worth the 8 minutes.
Still confused? We were, so we dug a little deeper. Well we just went to the dedicated website set up for the clip < http://www.kevinestey.com/wellingtonloveletter/ > (copy and paste people).
Seems it is all just a bit of a lark, and is not a part of anything for anyone selling nothing. That in itself is a real rarity. Just some mates having a laugh, and also providing something for Jesse to take with him on his travels into a new environment. Pretty slick calling card really.
This from the website:
Jesse was leaving New Zealand. But he didn't want to leave without making a bit of noise. So take a life long prankster, mix in some free time, 3 guys who work in film, some mild homo eroticism, and just the right amount of sexiness, and what you get is the Wellington Love Letter.
This video was sent out at Weta Digital, where we work, as a last day goodbye email to the entire company.
Our only hope now is that Jesse can become a familiar face and a household name to all the new friends that he meets in New York City. So welcome this bare chested piece of raw man sex with open arms, NYC!
The truth is this little piece of sunshine in all our lives known as Jesse/Jessica/JLE will be sorely missed in his new travels. So not only does this serve as a final laugh for him to give everyone, but it's something for us to remember the little jerkstore by.
Safe Travels Second-Guessy Jesse!
The reason that I have posted this, apart from just loving the concept, is that it really shows what can be achieved by way of promoting yourself or your business using new media like youtube. As Jesse goes forth into the big wide opens of NYC he takes with him a fantastic calling card that prospective employers, friends and business contacts can easily access and get a feel for the kind of guy that Jesse is. Couple this with a website that also acts as a promotional tool and both informs to a deeper level and reinforces the message, and job done.
Safe travels Jesse indeed. I bet you are about to make waves in a big pond.
