Are Minuit the coolest band in the world?

minuit2I might be a little biased here as Minuit originated in Nelson, and Ryan Beehre regularily plays at a couple of bars in town that are clients of ours. Minuit consist of Ruth Carr, Paul Dodge and Ryan Beehre.

Big news today is that one of their tracks from their new album "Find me before I die a lonely death.com", recorded and produced right here in little old Nelson, is to feature on top rating show Grey's Anatomy. That is pretty major really.

Not familiar with Minuit? Check out their website - it is very cool.
http://www.minuit.co.nz/

There you can buy their music, create your own interactive creature and explore the Minuit world.
I could put a link here to a global mega site where we get an affiliate payment for each sale, but in this case I would rather any purchases go straight to the artists via their website.

Musicians have a great friend in the internet. If their websites capture the hearts of their target market they have to opportunity to sell directly to them, bypassing the usual commercial vehicles and retaining maximum revenue from the sale. This is a lesson we can all take and apply to our own web ventures.

The track featured is "I'm Still Dancing" , and it appears in episode 13 of the current season of Grey's Anatomy, which is due to screen in New Zealand on TV2 on April 27.

Beehre said it was "quite surreal but also exciting" to learn that the song was going to be used.

"They must have been looking for the right track for that particular scene, and someone in the States knows Minuit and has said, 'Look, Minuit has the right music for this'."

The programme makers contacted Minuit's US publishers and bought the rights to the song.

Beehre would not say how much the deal was worth, only that "it's a fair bit of cash".

He said the band would also earn royalties every time the episode was broadcast anywhere in the world. "It's quite a big achievement, really."

Yes it is. A big achievement. Ryan still lives in Nelson and has a small home studio where he mixes and produces the majority of Minuit's music.
These musical geniuses prove that you can still live in a small town like Nelson and take on the world from your bedroom. Good on you! I am inspired.
