spcaFor those that know us they also know about our sometimes full house of animals of various shapes, sizes and species. Most of these animals come to us in some form of distress for a bit of R&R (rest and recovery) and sometimes never leave. Lucky them!

If you are in the market for a family pet this coming weekend is for you. Look no further than the SPCA for your next family addition - or even a thoughtfull Valentines Day gift for the person that has wanted a new pet. They are a great organisation, and work tirelessly on behalf of the animals. Just click on the web ad and go to the website where you can find out more.

Famous vegetarian and all round nice guy Mahatma Ghandi once said "the wealth of a nation can be best measured by how it treats it's animals"

The SPCA and Hill’s™ Pet Nutrition will be celebrating their national pet Adopt-a-thon on 13 and 14 February in SPCA centres nationwide. Hill’s™ Pet Nutrition is the exclusive feeding sponsor to the SPCA, providing pet food supplies for SPCA animals awaiting their forever families.

Last year twenty SPCA centres participated in the first-ever Second Chance for Love event, with over 500 lucky animals finding their forever homes. This year, nearly thirty SPCA’s will play match-maker, with the aim of finding soul-mates for even more animals. SPCA National Chief Executive Robyn Kippenberger says, “With more branches participating this year, and help from the public, I am sure we can double last year’s total and find families for 1,000 animals. I would encourage anyone thinking of adopting a pet to take this opportunity to visit our centres and find their perfect match.”

And Second Chance for Love isn’t just for the animals – people will have fun too. Volunteers will be playing Cupid at each participating SPCA centre, sharing information on how to care for new four-legged additions to the family, and there will be opportunities for two-legged family members to win spot prizes and giveaways of Hill’s™ pet food. Those who fall in love and adopt a little bundle of joy can also be in to win a year’s supply of Hill’s™ Science Diet™ pet food, by visiting the website at www.secondchanceforlove.co.nz (copy and paste into your browser) and sharing their adoption story.
Donations to the SPCA can also be made through the Second Chance for Love website, and an online voting system will allow members of the public to vote for which SPCA branch they think deserves to win a $1,000 donation from Hill’s™.
